UK Military Facilities to Accommodate Asylum Seekers in Bid to Cease Hotel-Based Use
Several hundred individuals seeking protection could be placed in armed forces facilities as the administration aims to end the use of hotels.
Talks are in progress regarding the use of two sites - one in northern Britain and another in the south of England - for shelter for 900 men.
The government leader has ordered Interior Ministry and Military Ministry officials to accelerate initiatives to locate appropriate military sites.
The government has vowed to terminate the operation of temporary hotel accommodations, which have required billions in funds and emerged as a central issue for anti-migrant protests.
Planned Military Locations
Asylum seekers may be placed in the Cameron Barracks in Highland region and East Sussex training site in southeastern England by the end of next month.
Industrial sites, interim housing and vacant properties are also being considered for future accommodation.
Authorities Assurances
Authoritative figures stated that each location would comply with wellbeing requirements.
"Our administration is extremely concerned at the scale of individuals without proper documentation and asylum hotels."
"The current leadership will close each temporary accommodation facility. Preparations are advancing rapidly, with more suitable sites being brought forward to reduce burden for communities and decrease migrant housing expenditures."
Current Housing Figures
Nearly 32 thousand individuals seeking protection are presently being sheltered in hotel facilities, representing a decrease from a high point of exceeding 56 thousand in the previous year.
A current assessment found that multiple billions of government revenue had been "wasted" on migrant shelter.
Earlier Military Site Utilization
Two former military sites - the Wethersfield facility in the eastern county and former military base in Kent - are already being used to shelter asylum seekers after being opened under the prior government.
The Prime Minister remarked on the situation, stating: "I am committed to shut down each temporary accommodation facility. Words cannot describe how frustrated and angry the administration feels that we face a mess as substantial as these developments by the previous administration."
