The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team could be building a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
